Retirement – Is it Heaven Or Hell?

August 1, 2010

Retirement, is it heaven or hell? It will ultimately depend on a few factors. Will you be able to cope financially? How well you have prepared for it? Are you mentally prepared to join the ranks of the retired? Will you be happy with all the extra time you will have? Basically, are you looking forward to the day you walk away from work for good or are you dreading it?

Will you be able to cope financially? This would involve savings and pension plans. Are you going to finish up with enough to keep up your present standard of living or are you going to have to cut back to enable you to make ends meet? It is never too early to start working out what your income is going to be after you are presented with your final pay check.

In today’s recession hit times there are many people’s pension plans reducing every week due to the investment markets volatility. There are no guarantees any more. The amount you were told you would receive when you entered the pension plan agreement is more than likely nothing like the amount you are likely to receive when the boys in the stock markets have finished trading with your funds. Have you had your yearly update yet? Did it bring tears to your eyes? It wouldn’t surprise me.

Have you prepared for retirement? If you haven’t fully prepared yourself you are likely to feel like a fish out of water. There will seem to be a void in your life and you will probably have difficulty in putting your finger on what is causing these feelings. It will almost feel that there is little point in doing anything any more. It’s quite normal when a large part of your life has been almost ripped away and there is nothing to replace it.

If you have had a hobby, interest or sport then you are probably better prepared than those who have dedicated their life to their job and career and have nothing to fall back on. If you are one of these perhaps now is the time to consider something to fill your new found freedom. There are many things that you could do, perhaps even related to your last job. Remember that charity organisations are always willing to use your talents for a few hours a week.

Finally, you might consider a completely new career on the internet. These days there are numerous older people who are quite capable of utilising the power of the internet to earn extra money. It is nowhere as difficult as some people would have you believe. If you are reading this article you evidently have access to the major tools necessary to start, a computer and an internet connection.

You will be surprised at how much is available on the net to help you start for absolutely nothing. You can certainly get to the stage where you will be able to decide if this could be for you before you spend anything. I’ve found it educational, very interesting and it is becoming profitable. It’s not all that long ago when I myself would have thought that I would be able to do all that I can do now. It’s all down to good training and patience. Try it yourself for free!
